ACPV’s entry for the ‘NOVECENTOPIÙCENTO’ international architectural competition organized by Comune di Milano envisions a flexible structure that follows a contemporary reinterpretation of the museum visitor experience, based on personal autonomy in interacting with works of art. The new three-story structure is positioned in between the two symmetrical buildings (1st ARENGARIO and 2nd ARENGARIO) at Milan’s Piazza del Duomo, now housing the Museo del Novecento. The structure reiterates the architectural qualities of the two buildings, connecting seamlessly with the existing spaces to be renovated in a flexible way. The reversible and temporary presence of the structure will offer unparalleled views of the urban context, offering new possibilities for displaying and engaging with the arts. The design becomes a sustainable piece of construction by employing the use of easily removable and reusable elements, extending the useful life of each piece of the flexible structure.
